Concerning the question on whether the founding fathers intended for the US to be a religeous nation,, It is and always has been well known that the colonies each had or very nearly had a predominate religion. Wisely the Reps chose to forbid the congress from creating a "state" religion. That in no way implies a ban on religeous freedom. Quite the contrary. "Congress will make no law..............

Jwkoenig noted that, " The progressive era amendments 16th-18th, took away states' rights to appoint senators and have a voice in the federal government, and allowed our government to grow to outrageous levels with the income tax." You could have added the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to that list...because you obviously wish that the Civil War had not been fought and lost by the states-rightists. The States-Rights issue has been raised and failed. More than 600,000 dead Americans can attest to that.

Positive amendments to the US Constitution that have reshaped America...freeing the slaves, making them citizens, giving the male ex-slaves the vote, giving women the right to vote, giving 18 year-olds the right to vote.
Negative amendments to the US Constitution that have reshaped America: Prohibition; reducing the number of terms a president can serve
What does this say about amendments to the US Constitution?

Liberals love to talk badly about the "corporations are people" concept but are nowhere to be found when unions spend tons of money on Democrats' campaigns. As far as amendments being rare, I agree that they should be. This was the whole reason that the constitution makes it so hard to do. Historically, some of the most problematic amendments were passed hastily and have unfortunate consequences today. The reconstruction period birthed the 13th-15th amendments, which did some very good things with ending slavery but have caused issues with birthright citizenship and over-the-top political correctness with the equal protection clause. The progressive era amendments 16th-18th, took away states' rights to appoint senators and have a voice in the federal government, and allowed our government to grow to outrageous levels with the income tax.

It is my belief that amendments to the US Constitution should be rare and debated for a long time before the process is initiated. I would suggest such discussions on restricting the constitutional right to own fire arms and repeal of the "corporations are people" concept and restrictions on corporate spending in campaigns.
