Polling and Research Analyst

OVERVIEW

Votifi is a Washington DC based early stage technology startup whose goal is to utilize data to connect and empower citizens on issues. We are currently seeking someone with an entrepreneurial spirit who understands politics and/or market research and loves working with data and emerging mobile platforms.

DESCRIPTION AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Polling and Research analyst will be responsible for some or all of the following:

• Draft and edit survey questions
• Prepare analysis of polling data including top-lines and crosstabs
• Assist in presentations and material organizing
• Participate in strategic discussions involving development of technology and polling platforms
• Aid in data analysis and report writing
• Other individual projects as assigned

Advanced applicants will also be able to:

• Develop data visualizations using R, Tableau or Javascript to convey insights to clients
• Design and operate programs to access data API to download various data from Votifi database or social media sites
• Integrate data from multiple public and private sources including social networks

The ideal candidate will have very strong quantitative analytical as well as writing abilities, good organizational skills, and a passion for politics, technology and data.

The candidate should be comfortable working with statistical software and ready to learn new methods for analyzing and visualizing data. Prior research experience is a plus.

QUALIFICATIONS

A successful applicant will have the following qualifications:

• Experience in Statistical package (Ideally SPSS but also Stata, R or SAS)
• Basic experience in SQL based query database
• Ability to work with large amounts of data accurately and quickly
• Ability to collaborate effectively with others and respond to requests for data to manage multiple projects
• Ability to manage time and execute with minimal direction
• Comfortable with uncertainty and failure: Votifi is a tech startup. We have our goal and vision as destinations, but we are building the roadmap. We tinker, try new things,collaborate, and ultimately succeed by building on our failures.
• Knowledge of the political process a big plus

Advanced applicants will also have some of the following attributes:

• Prior experience in a scripting language such as Python, Ruby, or Perl
• Prior experience in data visualization software, R, or Tableau
• Familiarity with UNIX type OS and shell.
• Experience working with public policy or political polling data
